The Steppenwolf recording of that old Hoyt Axton song should play on a loop through the corridors of DC as the soundtrack to the Bush administration energy policy.
It was less than three months ago that we were told “America is addicted to oil” and the best way to break the addiction was by developing “cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable alternative energy sources.”
So where are the new windfarms? hahahahahahaha!!! Don’t be an idiot. A dealer can always tell his best customers what contemptible addicts they are. He knows they’re not going anywhere and his business isn’t going suffer.
So here he is, the street corner peddler, acting as usual on behalf of Big Oil. Not building windfarms. No. Don’t be silly. Offering ocean floor leases to his Big Oil cronies so they can drill, getting more of what we crave and ultimately unleashing God only knows what sort of ecological nightmare.
Offshore Drilling Plan Widens Rifts Over Energy Policy – New York Times: “The two-million-acre area, in deep waters 100 miles south of Pensacola, Fla., is estimated to contain nearly half a billion barrels of oil and three trillion cubic feet of natural gas, enough to run roughly a million vehicles and heat more than half a million homes for about 15 years. The site, Area 181, is the only major offshore leasing zone that the administration is offering for development.”
