Angels & Assholes: Flag burning

Common sense and civil liberties have prevailed in the Senate – by one vote.

Tuesday, the Senate voted down a joint resolution proposing a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting flag burning and other “desecration.”This appalling waste of time and money was, of course, a sheerly political maneuver.

ASSHOLES:
The Republicans who supported it – and nearly squeaked it through – did so with an eye to November. It was win-win for them. If they managed to get it passed, they had a “victory” to boast about on the campaign trail. If not, they had something to fire up the base and get them out to vote.

ANGELS:
The thirty-three Democrats and three Republicans who took a stand for civil liberties by voting against this nonsense did so knowing they will be smeared with false charges that they are “unpatriotic” – charges that will undoubtedly travel as a GOP twofer with the eye-googlingly hypocritical “cut and run” crap.
